How many porta potties does OSHA require on a job site?

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1 requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers. Crews of 20 or more need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers, and crews of 200 or more need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50. A standard unit has both a seat and a urinal.

Workers on siteOSHA minimum (Table D-1)Our recommendation with weekly service
1–101 toilet1 standard unit
11–201 toilet2 standard units
21–401 seat + 1 urinal per 403–4 standard units
41–802 seats + 2 urinals5–8 units, or add a second service day
200+1 seat + 1 urinal per 50Planned with your safety lead

Worked example: a 25-person framing crew meets the OSHA minimum with 1 standard unit (1 seat + 1 urinal). We recommend 3 units, because 1 unit per 10 workers keeps a 40-hour week from overfilling the 60-gallon tank before the weekly visit. The legal minimum comes from OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51; the recommendation is ours, based on tank size and service frequency. Confirm site requirements with your safety officer.

How does weekly service work on a construction site?

Weekly service means a tech visits each unit every 7 days on a set route day. The tech pumps the tank, scrubs the seat, walls and urinal, adds deodorizer, restocks toilet paper and sanitizer, and logs the visit. Crews over 10 people or summer heat may need a second weekly visit.

  • Same service day every week, so your super knows when to expect us
  • Units with sinks get fresh water and soap refilled
  • November–March: salt brine added so the tank stays liquid
  • Damaged door, latch or vent reported to you the same day
  • Move the unit to a new spot on the service visit at no charge

Do construction crews need hand washing stations?

Construction crews need washing facilities under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) when they handle paint, coatings, concrete, lead or other contaminants. A hand wash station with 2 sinks serves about 3 toilets, and a toilet with a built-in sink works for small crews.

Food-plant, healthcare and school sites in Fort Wayne often require hand washing by contract, even for short jobs. Ask your general contractor before the job starts so the station arrives with the toilets.

Where should a porta potty go on a construction site?

Place jobsite porta potties on firm, level ground within 25 feet of where a service truck can park, away from crane swing paths, trenches and material drop zones. Keep the door facing away from the street. Our truck needs a path about 10 feet wide.

  • New subdivisions in Huntertown, Aboite and Ossian: on the lot, behind the curb, not in the street
  • Commercial sites: by the contractor trailer, so supervisors can check it
  • Street or sidewalk placement in Fort Wayne needs a Right of Way permit
  • Text a map pin for sites without an address

How do 28-day billing, extensions and pickup work?

Jobsite rentals bill every 28 days while the unit is on site, and each cycle includes 4 weekly service visits. There is no end date to set up front. Call or text when the job is done, and billing stops at the end of the cycle in which you request pickup.

Our supplier did not deliver. Can you get a unit to my jobsite today?

Same-day jobsite delivery is available in Allen County and nearby towns when you call by noon. The $99 same-day fee is added to the first 28-day cycle. After that you pay the normal 28-day rate.

Do you offer a toilet with a sink for my crew?

Units with a built-in hand sink rent for $259 per 28 days with weekly service. OSHA 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities on construction sites, and a sink unit or a separate hand wash station meets that need.

Can you set up one order for two job sites close together?

Each address is its own order, because each site gets its own service stop. You can keep them on one account with one invoice.

Do you have an account program for contractors?

Contractors with steady work get one account, one invoice, a set service day for every site and a direct line to dispatch. Approved commercial accounts can pay by invoice. Call to set it up.

Can you give me a written price to include in a bid?

Written quotes are emailed the same day, listing unit, service frequency, delivery, mileage and tax per site. Prices on a written quote are held for 30 days.

If I only need it for two weeks, do I still pay for 28 days?

Jobsite rentals have a 28-day minimum, so a 2-week job pays for one cycle. For jobs of 7 days or less, an event-style rental at $249 is usually cheaper. Ask and we will price both.

Do porta potties freeze in Fort Wayne winters?

Fort Wayne's January low averages about 15°F, so from November through March we add a salt-brine or antifreeze mix to the tank on each service. That keeps the waste tank liquid. The charge is included.
